Radio Show – Special Guest Ellen Million

October 31, 2007 on 6:37 pm | In fantasy artists, licensed products, radio show | No Comments

Join us for the second TOTF radio blogshow tomorrow Thursday November 1, 8PM PST with Special Guest Ellen Million! We’ll be talking about how to make some money in this business for anybody considering making the jump. We’ll get to know the wonderful artist that many, many of us know as the one who sends a regular paycheck and then dive right into marketing fantasy art!

Our first show with special fantasy artist guest Christina Davis was just an adrenaline rush for Joseph Corsentino and myself! It was great to chat with a fellow artist and get to know her a little more. If you haven’t heard the interview, click on the flashplayer below to listen in on the conversation! The first show was a success as far as I’m concerned! Though only 14 people were able to listen live, over a hundred people have downloaded the radioshow and have heard it in archive within 24 hours! It’s the gift that keeps on giving! Thank you to the 14 people who heard us live and thank you to the people who continue to make this radio show successful!

I hope more people join us for the second show with Ellen Million, and I hope people call in! We really want to hear YOUR questions and YOUR stories! So, don’t be shy and give us a call!

I hope everyone can listen in and call in!

Fantasy Artist Deanna and Joseph at Faeriecon

October 25, 2007 on 8:04 pm | In Faerie Con, conventions, fan letters, fantasy artists | No Comments

The best thing about conventions like Faeriecon is that we get to meet amazing people!  Joseph met fantasy artist Deanna Davoli and just connected!  Check out Deanna’s ethereal work at ambient-arts.com.

Here’s a letter we received from Deanna:

Hello J.

It was such an honor to meet you Faerie con! I am still kicking myself for not bringing my book from home to have you sign it…I guess it will have to wait for another time and place.

Anyway, I just wanted to send you the photo that was taken of us there. enjoy!

Fairy Faith – A Film Review

October 25, 2007 on 10:31 am | In classical fairy, fairies | No Comments

Fairy Faith, a documentary by John Walker and backed by the National Film Board of Canada, asks if our modern detachment from the land alienated us from the supernatural realm.

The documentary is a well crafted exploration of the history of fairies, from its eclectic and dangerous past, to its prettification during the Victorian era, to its current existence now.

Interspersed with interviews with harpers, shamans, and others like Brian Froud, the documentary treats fairies seriously rather than doubtfully.  These interviews are usually set in almost mythic landscapes, where you can believe that fairies would frolic.

A favorite story of mine is from the old gentleman at the beginning.  One day, a mare’s mane was mysteriously braided.  Seems like something a mischevious fairy would do.

The documentary emphasizes the “classical” fairy and because of the cultural root of the people interviewed, these fairies are very Gaelic.

John Walker did mention in brief that fairies come from many culture and have thousand years history.  I would have liked him to explore further these other supernatural fairies, not simply the Gaelic fairies.  Of course, I would also have liked him to explore the Time of the Faeries question, “How would fairies fare in a modern, urban setting?”  I don’t believe that fairies are limited simply to the natural setting, but can evolve, suffer and thrive as the world evolves.

Well worth a watch, nonetheless.

We here at Time of the Faeries are always happy when we receive letters like this one:

I just wanted you to know I love your work. I don’t have the book because it isn’t sold in stores and every  time I come on here there isn’t any more. I love your work. I fell in love with it the instant I saw the Fray pic.

Thank you for being so talented and sharing it with the world.

Sincerely,
Julia

Julia, thank you for making our day!
