Five faeries did not escape into Twilight. They vanished into the forest not to be seen again as they were. For thousands of years, they kept the forms of wild wolves, roaming the forests and keeping together in a pack, hiding from the ever changing world. When civilization grew around them, they turned into the form that was closest to their wolf kin, stray canines.

As dogs, they could travel among the humans and thrive with a new sense of freedom. They take what they wanted, get what they wanted from others, and steal the rest. It soon became advantageous to reform into a humanoid form. When the five Phelans shifted, they choose a new gender to match their evolved masculine energy and the first male faeries were born.

What is a darkling?

Twisted, broken horrors. The darklings are remnants of what once were faeries, destroyed in the last war and raised by the sheer will to continue, though without a future, without the potential for a future, for evolution. They have no soul, no energy of their own, and no will other than to steal futures from humans around them in vengeance for what was done to them.

A darkling’s touch leaves a human an empty shell that goes about his daily life, 9 to 5, then couch surfing until bedtime, only to do it again the next day, until his death 60 years later without ever once having touched the lives of those around him or changing the world around him.

One night, in a twisted transformation, a modern faerie mistakenly infused her power into that of a darkling and created the first vampire, a dark faerie with all the power and sophistication of a modern faerie, but with none of the heart.

A vampire is a creature who wants. They want all the things they never had, pleasure, pretty things, money. They are as hungry as darklings but they have desires on top of it, not just an empty crazing for more emptiness. They believe they deserve all they are capable of taking, and they do take…everything.

The price for an Angel leaving Eve’n is to lose one’s own identity and memory. Some Angels choose to rebel against what they consider to be an obsolete system, fall to Earth, leaving behind all they were in hopes of rediscovering a better way. The reality is a harsh one.

These Fallen Angels, called Nephilim, have to start anew, orphaned and amnesiac. They are part mortal, bound to live out their lives in the world of humans. Many end up lost souls, haunted, and tormented by the dark memories that exist only on the tips of their dreams.

After the devastation of the Fall of Kailand, many noble faeries withdrew from human society and interactions. Fearing a repeat of the last great war, the noble faeries created a new faerie realm, separate from humans, watching over humans, and slowly guiding the development of human culture, religion, and society. As these noble faeries go about their new self-appointed mission of molding humans, their wings evolve from quixotic insect wings to giant feathered wings, differentiating themselves from their past, creating a new identity and mythology for themselves. They become…Angels.

It took time, lots of time, but a few street faeries began to connect with humans again. They began to understand the modern world, and learn how to work within the confines, the potential, and the power of the urban world. They sense the energy in neon lights, the connection in the wireless air, the beat of mp3s. Faeries slowly began to dance to the rhythm of midnight traffic and fly on the heat from black tarmac.

Their tattered wings grew strong again. Their rags transformed into micro-mini skirts with coordinating boots and jackets. The faeries, in all their glory and mischief, were back and ready to inspire humans once again.

Upon their return to the modern world, the faeries of yesteryear were stupified by the reality of the modern world, rampant commercialism that focuses on self-indulgence, technology run amuck with no regards to the natural world, parking lots where trees used to be, oil slicks on the surface of once pristine waves, humans with little sense of magick, or even hope.

The faeries, like many humans, feel out of place and disconnected from their old powers. Their wings become tattered, their clothing even worse, as they quickly lose hope. They struggle on the streets of the urban cities, doing what they can to survive, plying small tricks to feel that sense of connection to humanity, grinding their wings to dust and snorting it up again to feel magick. They become indistinguishable from other young girls, equally abandoned by the modern world, walking the streets, homeless.

What is a faerie?

A faerie is an energy being descended from starlight, charged with watching over sentient beings and inspiring their evolution. They are simply a glimmer of light, with no actual body. They use illusions to take the form of humans so that humans can relate with them. Only when absolutely necessary, when they have to physically interact with the world around them, do they become corporeal.

Their wings and clothing reflect their mood, a way for faeries to create their own identities.

They have been around for as long as humans have.

We are updating the Time of the Faeries online store with many new prints and images of faeries, angels, and vampires. We know many fans have their own favorites. In the past, we’ve tried restricting available prints to twenty at a time, but now, due to fan request, we will post LOTS of prints on the store. Periodically, every month or so, we will rotate in 50 different prints and rotate out the older pieces.
