Meet the Intern

Hey everyone! I’m Kendra Matott. I’m working with Donny and Joseph this summer as their intern. I am a photographer currently studying art and history at the State University of New York at Potsdam. I’ve always been interested in fantasy and I try to incorporate it into my photography. I’m excited to be in Los Angeles for the first time, and even more excited to get to help out with the Time of the Faeries this summer. I’ll be working with TOTF until FaerieWorlds, so maybe I’ll see you there!

My internship began last week at the Modelfest 2009 event in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. It was a great week of never-ending shooting-madness. Joseph and the other photographers who attended got to shoot at some beautiful locations, including White Sands and a waterfall that was quite a hike to get to. The rest of the week was spent doing even more photo shoots, including the Seven Deadly Sins which were a lot of fun. At the end of the week, Joseph went away with 15.5 gigs of photos to sort through. We had a wonderful time and ended up with some great shots. Look for an article about it in Fae Magazine and check out the Modelfest Myspace page at Myspace.com/modelfest_nm.

An elegant Vampire

December 19, 2008 on 9:35 pm | In new images, photoshoots, vampires | No Comments

totfpreview1171 This started out as a simple sineater, but the model is just so elegant that she ended up a Vampire.  That is the way it goes!  A photoshoot for us is very much a collaboration between the model, Joseph Corsentino, the make-up artist, the stylist, the environment, and sometimes, even the cats.

Joseph is very pleased with the way this shoot turned out, especially since it was just meant as a fun thing, a test really.

This piece, still untitled, is part of the Titanium series.

Shopping in Downtown Los Angeles

December 6, 2008 on 11:02 pm | In costume, fairies, photoshoots | No Comments

Joseph and I discovered Santee Alley for the first time today and spent FAR too much money buying up jackets and accent pieces for Time of the Faeries.  Shopping is incredibly addictive, and somehow, shopping for fairies free you from any guilt you may feel.  At least it does for me.  Bad habit, Donny!

Joseph, Erin, and I spent an amazing day in downtown Los Angeles shopping for fabric and inspiration.

The Royal Fairies/Royal Court have been on our mind for the last few years.   On and off, we have mused on what we wanted, but were never quite satisfied.  During Jareth’s Ball in July, we struck gold with Erin, an amazing designer/muse.  She consented to not only design the costumes, but also to be the model for the Royal Fairy herself, surrounded by her Fairy Court.

Today, we got to walk around downtown to conceptualize the Fairy Court, and it’s coming together beautifully.  I’ll keep you updated.

Another Modern Fairy Photoshoot Done!

September 21, 2008 on 10:38 pm | In fairies, models, photoshoots | No Comments

We spent an amazing day with Danielle, a beautiful modern day fairy we met at Faerieworlds Festival 2008.  She was so naturally a modern faerie, that we couldn’t help but pull together such a costume for her.  We then took her around town and just let her go buck wild!  We can’t wait to see the final images from this photoshoot.  Danielle, you rock!

Cloudcroft Photoshoots – Behind the Scenes

July 17, 2008 on 10:14 pm | In costume, fairies, fantasy photographers, models, photoshoots | No Comments

I can’t even remember how many photoshoots we did in Cloudcroft, NM! These are just some of the behind the scene photos, a quick glimpse into the hard work and side-splittin’ fun that goes into producing a TOTF photo.

Now, if I haven’t mentioned her before, I want to thank you her now: Rhonda Napoleon is a goddess! She not only produced the photoshoots by organizing the models, transportation, housing, food, location, and all the little details, she also helped me style the costumes, did all the make-up, and the hair, all while getting no sleep and working on three other photoshoots as well, with Tracy Cornett and Vicky Visconti and Francine Dufour! Without Rhonda, none of this would be possible. Thank you Rhonda! You are a truly talented and amazing person!

Cloudcroft Renaissance Faire Photos

Joseph Corsentino and I had way too much fun at Cloudcroft. The Ren faire was a lovely affair, with awesome people. We spoke with everybody and sold lots of books. The rain was cranky, but tolerable. The turkey drumsticks were the best. The best part of the whole experience, however, was meeting amazing people, doing fantastic photoshoots, and playing Rock Band till the wee hours of the morning!

Here are lots of photos form ONE of the cameras! There are more!

A big thank you to Rhonda and her fairies for inviting us to this amazing experience! Hope to see you guys next year!

Classical Fairy Photoshoot Done!

July 8, 2007 on 8:11 pm | In classical fairy, photoshoots | No Comments

It went very well.  We visited two parks to get the fairy shots we needed.  A great time was had by all and we ended the day at the delicious and healthy Souplantation.  Let’s do it again soon!

Joseph will be hardcore working on the images tonight, creating a beautiful and enchanting fairy, and perhaps he will consent to release one image to the public.  Generally, he guards his Generation II fairy images jealously.

Here’s a behind the scene picture of Joseph Corsentino checking on one of his shots of the model, Sarah Pletcher.

Since I have so much time, waiting for make-up, I created Part 1 of the tutorial.  Yeah!  You are seeing the shoot about as live as you can get without a webcam!
